GLAD House was recently welcomed to a luncheon meeting of Cincinnati Eastside Rotary.

Executive Director, Michelle Cox, shared that Glad House is a certified mental health and prevention agency that works with high-risk youth who have been impacted emotionally and behaviorally by a family member with an addiction.

Children of abusers are:

  • 3-4 times more likely than others to become addicted to alcohol and drugs themselves

  • More likely than their peers to have learning disabilities, be truant, repeat more grades, transfer schools and be expelled

  • 6 times more likely to witness spousal abuse than other children

  • More likely to develop stress-related health problems, anxiety, depression or eating disorders

GLAD House believes those statistics are unacceptable and can be changed. Comprehensive interventions help children learn through individual and group therapy how to cope with, and ultimately move beyond, this destructive family pattern. Youth learn to manage their impulses, anger and behavior so that they can define and achieve their goals.

GLAD House’s holistic approach combines mental health services, substance abuse and violence prevention programs, academic assistance, cultural enrichment and ongoing long-term support and guidance for high-risk children and their families.
