The UC Engineering College features a 5th year fully paid coop: one of the largest and oldest in the country, but we also learned that it sponsors a student organization named Engineers Without Borders. This nonprofit organization endeavors to solve practical problems, such as clean water storage and sanitation projects in rural areas of the US as well as in developing countries.
Civil Engineering students as well as other student volunteers from this group give up one week of their spring break to join one of three project teams. They travel to various sites and work with communities to address some of their most pressing problems. They design solutions to address key issues and the students gain technical and leadership skills: truly service above self!
